The second session of JEE Main 2024 took place on Friday, conducted in two shifts, morning and evening. The exam, administered in computer-based mode, covered NCERT syllabus and featured questions of normal to moderate difficulty.
Chemistry
In the morning session, the chemistry paper posed a moderate challenge. Section 1 included statement and true/false type questions, with some statements in organic chemistry proving confusing for students. Section 2 predominantly focused on physical chemistry, covering topics like periodic properties, chemical bonding, and coordination chemistry. Other areas such as salt analysis and d-block also featured, with various questions from different chapters like Atomic Structure and Chemical Kinetics. The evening shift saw a similar paper.
Mathematics
The morning session’s mathematics paper was of medium difficulty, with students noting lengthy calculations. Algebra questions covered areas like sequence and series, complex numbers, and probability. Calculus questions included topics such as differentiability, differential equations, and definite integration. Questions from vector and 3D geometry, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, and statistics were also present. The evening shift paper was longer and more time-consuming.
Physics
The morning session’s physics paper included questions from both 11th and 12th-grade syllabi. Topics ranged from unit and dimension to vector, NLM, and various other chapters from mechanics. Questions from thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and simple harmonic motion were also asked. In the 12th-grade syllabus, questions covered electrostatics, current electricity, and modern physics, among others. The evening shift paper was comparatively easier.
Overall, the second session of JEE Main 2024 presented a fair mix of questions across subjects, with students facing challenges typical of the exam’s level of difficulty.
